CONTEMPORARY GEOMETRIC BEADWORK

an open source architectural beadwork project from Kate McKinnon and a worldwide team of innovators

circular stitches and ring shanks

this amazing ring currently for sale in Kate’s Web Shop, and five others are in the Beadmobile Shop right now.

We have explored the circle in a variety of ways for the book- circular peyote (which hilariously we made triangles of, but it’s still a circular stitch- where do we FILE that?) circular square stitch, circular freeform. Circular RAW and Ndebele herringbone express themselves in tubes and spheres.

It’s time to move on… I’m turning my attention to shanks. Leaf shanks, flat shanks, wired shanks, flexible shanks…the shank on the Dreamsifter ring (pictured above) is very interesting to me, as its attachment points to the disc were chosen so that the ring adjusts to ring sizes between 6.5-8. Larger fingers pull the disc flatter, smaller fingers get more of a bowl.
