CONTEMPORARY GEOMETRIC BEADWORK

an open source architectural beadwork project from Kate McKinnon and a worldwide team of innovators

Glorious summer light

The light was perfect in the photography studio today, and I got a beautiful shot of Debra Schwartz’s beautiful Double Rick-Rack Bangle.

This is about the most perfect piece ever, showing the power of the Bellyband, and the excitement that rounds bring to geometric or architectural beadwork.

If you haven’t tried substituting (or mixing in) rounds to your CGB work, what the heck are you waiting for?

A masterpiece to be sure. I’ve started a Rick Rack with rounds, I need to finish it.

I find the structural beadwork interesting to look at but most of it is not wearable (to me) but this piece is both lovely and wearable. I will try to make this one.

Wearable is a relative term… If I wear something to the opera, or to work around the house, I have different expectations of the jewelry. And almost any of these techniques can be used to make brooches, or necklaces, which can be worn anywhere, any time.

Sewn beadwork is by nature fragile, and not meant for daily or hard wear, for wetting, or getting knocked around or leaned on.
