CONTEMPORARY GEOMETRIC BEADWORK

an open source architectural beadwork project from Kate McKinnon and a worldwide team of innovators

The Pattern Book rockets forward / Volume II in a second printing

New pre-order available!

Things are moving very quickly for the project now, as we are full speed ahead on the (honestly brilliant) CGB Pattern Book, and in layout on the CGB Colouring Book (a set of outlines for stacks of our projects that you can colour in to experiment with pattern, shading, etc.

The Band as a Young Flower

The format of the Pattern Book will be explained in a presentation I’m giving on collaborative creativity for the San Diego Bead Society. The talk will be the Mingei Museum in Balboa Park, on August 15th, and will conclude their regular 10 a.m. meeting. Please plan on coming for the meeting if you want to see the talk.

If you can’t make it to San Diego, the talk will be filmed and viewable here on the Book Blog, our CGB YouTube channel, and our Facebook page on the following week. Following the talk, we will be having a photoshoot on the grounds of the museum. Everyone is welcome!

This is an example (drawn by Karen Beningfield) of a simple Rick-Rack from the Colouring Book. With pencils or fine point markers, you can play with your colours before setting needle to beads. We will be showing as many of our forms and bead charts as we can stuff into the book.

Rick Rack for Colouring Book

This template could be used to work out colours for any of the flowers shown in this post, because each flower half is just a simple Zigged Band in the round.

thank you flowers

CGB, Volume II is in a second printing!

This is unspeakably exciting. And also quite expensive. This is a great time for a pre-order of the new project, if you’ve been contemplating one! The Colouring Book is bundled as a gift with the Pattern Book only before we head to press. After that, it will be sold separately.

THANK YOU for making this project such a huge success.
