CONTEMPORARY GEOMETRIC BEADWORK

an open source architectural beadwork project from Kate McKinnon and a worldwide team of innovators

Contemporary Geometric Beadwork at MIT in Boston, and again in NYC

For those of you in the Boston/Cambridge or NYC areas, there are two CGB talks coming up that you might be interested in. Both are open to the public. The first is at MIT, which is of course deeply exciting.

Gehry O Rama MIT

NEXT MONDAY, October 12, 2-4 pm:  Stata Center, MIT (the Frank Gehry building), Room 32-123 (the main lecture hall on the first floor).  FREE.

A summary of the study of structure vs. ornament, and how the Contemporary Geometric Beadwork project, with our open source approach, has brought new ideas to an ancient field.

Tuesday, October 27, 6 pm., NYC: Church of the Holy Apostles, 28th St. and 9th Ave, for the Bead Society Of Greater New York:  How to use Exploding Sets and Other CGB Small Miracles. $5 for non-members.

Thank you to both MIT and the BSGNY for the warm welcomes.

Dear Kate – Delighted to see you’re getting some recognition for all you hard work and inventive ideas – as well as for all the other contributors. Truly it’s a tour de force! I’m wondering if there could possibly be a audio or video podcast (or something similar) made of the presentations in Boston and/or New York? I live too far away to get to either one, tho I’d go like a shot it I were nearer. Thanks for your reply, if you have time. *-) Betsy Foster Date: Thu, 8 Oct 2015 02:00:03 +0000 To: msbetsyfoster@msn.com

      Hi Betsy!
I am working on getting decent video of the talks… and also working on creating a coherent series of them. We have so many new ideas exploding all of the time that old talk video tends to expire pretty quickly. For example, in the last talk I gave in San Diego (at the Mingei, it’s on YouTube) all of the problems mentioned are solved, and we are on to a new set.

I need a series of talks that presents things with the appropriate weight. Working on it!

    memo

    Kate,

I’m working with Roberta Manfredo on the BSGNY October meeting notice.

I need a photo of you for my layout. Need it as soon as possible.

I saw a nice shot of you wearing a fur trimmed dress. I didn’t want to use it

without your approval. If could send it that would be great.

    Thanks,

    Dolores Rizzo Tesch

Let’s see: Our vacation is from the 17th, landing in Boston, Maine, Boston, NY, back to Boston and home. What luck….I am with a non-bead husband, and I could have been to the CGB Talk!!
