CGB Workshops: November and December

Workshops just posted – please sign up if you’d like a slot – we will be teaching ALL techniques from ALL books at BOTH sessions. Click the links for more description. Limited accommodation available on site, please email for more information, or to hold a slot for you if you’d like to sign up, but would like to pay later.

These sessions… we talk about them for years afterward. Words cannot convey the joy in fellowship and discovery we find.

December 1-5, 2021 (five days): $500
per student

Gold collar up top, Kate McKinnon, eggbox tile Karen Beningfield (with contribution of squares from other collaborators) and bangle at bottom beaded and designed by Capitola Bradshaw as a variation on a Debra Schwartz design from the new books.

Kate, found info and registered. Where should we plan on staying? Where will we be meeting?

I will email you offline, Marie, as this is the public comment section of the Book Blog. I will help everyone find accommodations if they want to – we will be meeting in midtown Savannah, closest cross streets Victory and Abercorn in the lovely old Ardsley Park neighborhood. Live oaks, so many trees, bodega across the street, parks, tennis courts, restaurants etc. all in walking distance.

Hi Kate Can you provide a little more info about the retreats, specifically where the classes will be held and the accommodations?  Will you be recommending a hotel?  I am interested in the December retreat.  Are there still two openings, one for me and one for my roommate?  Out of curiosity, how many people will be at each retreat? Finally, I’m a little confused about the vaccination requirement.  Are you asking that we have a vaccine within 30 days or the retreat?  Or that we provide proof that we’ve had a vaccine within 30 days, even though the vaccine actually occurred in April 2021? Gaye

Hi there! Vaccinations need to be completed (including the wait time) 30 days before the workshops start. This will just make sure that we have people fully through their vax cycle. It may turn out that by winter those vaxxed in March/April/May may require 6 mo boosters and if that is the case we will ask for that as well. We want the freedom to bead unmasked, and so that means a fully current vax card for everyone, whatever that turns out to mean at the time.

I would love to have you, and we can help you with accommodations. Some people like to share, and just want recs on where to stay, others want help coordinating with the other students on shared rentals. The studio is full now for both workshops (that was the stay on site option) but we are located conveniently in midtown Savannah (Ardsley Park, Victory/Abercorn) and the location is no more than ten minutes from just about anything by car. Even the beaches at Tybee are only a 20 minute drive, and an easy one.

So if you already have a roomie, I encourage you to look online (AirBnB etc.) and see where you might like to stay, and then I’ll help you make sure you have a good place; I live here and it’s a small town. Definitely sign up soon if you want spaces in the same workshop; we can only have a max of 25 students.

The number of CGB team members at the workshop will be directly driven by how many students we have, to ensure that everyone has quality time with the instructors. I will be present myself for every minute. These workshops are… unforgettable. And not like really anything else.

I am very interested in attending your November beading workshop in Savanah. I have a couple of questions however,

1.How many students will be in the session? 2.Is the classroom/workshop located in Savanah proper? 3. Do students make their own accommodations? 4.Does the $500 cover the cost of the workshop materials?

Thanks for getting back to me regarding my questions. I look forward to hearing from you and attending the workshop.

Hi Kate – I’m looking forward to the December session in Savannah. Have you determined the location and any accommodation options? If so, would you mind sharing them?
    Stay well, Lisa

Yes, I will send an email just to the students in a few days, when I have a sense of who is coming, what they want, who wants to share, etc.

To me, this is a once in my lifetime opportunity! I’m still a bit skittish traveling due to Covid. Any thought on having this retreat via Zoom?

Hi Pat! Yes, it has been scary, hasn’t it? Our household stayed in physical isolation for over a year, and we are now fully vaxxed and beginning to do small things like consider eating outdoors on a restaurant patio. By November, anyone who wants to be vaxxed will certainly be, and I think we will have boosters available as well at the six month mark.

If I were immunocompromised, I doubt I would risk very much right now, or even this year, but I think for healthy people who have been vaccinated, it’s going to be OK to get back to life. We are requiring proof of COVID vaccination for all workshop attendees, no exceptions, and so from that point I think people have to make their own decisions.

As to Zoom, I must confess that it crushes my soul, so I don’t want to hold Zoom classes – and honestly, the workshop experience cannot be confined to one room, one table, and it isn’t about any one project or even group of projects. However, I do have a Zoom event coming up May 1, and it is a traditional class, free to all, to make a BatCycle. Please join! The class will be archived and the pattern published here on the site, so there is no need to join other than to have fun with us.

If you got these notices, you will certainly get the invite for that – we will post it on the blog and on Facebook.

Hi! Well, as soon as we can gather safely. My estimate, as I said in the post, was July/August. We are just now getting vaccinated. It’s a big job, takes a whole team to do.

I adore your piece and it is featured STRONGLY in Volume III, along with a Deb Schwartz architecture credit. I need to run back in there and put in all of the photo credits! Why don’t you girls come on down to Savannah and take a class. I’d love to host you.
