an open source architectural beadwork project from Kate McKinnon and a worldwide team of innovators
For advanced beaders who want to get started on the form in advance of our Step-by-Step pattern release, here are the charts for two Starflower patterns, a Basic and an Embellished. Kathryn added some custom notation of her own to these, but they should still be easy (for those of you used to reading charts) to follow.
Our full Step-by-Step illustrated patterns are in final edit right now, and we’ll upload them tomorrrow when we’ve checked every page. Don’t try to work from the charts unless you are confident. Have fun!

These starflowers are wonderful !!! I’ve done the Reverse Starflower and the Rainbow Reverse Starflower and would love to do a bellflower… but can’t figure out how to make it cup. Any chance of a chart or a hint on how to do this??? Since I want to actually use these as flowers, any thoughts on “contemporary leaves” for this??? Thanks for your patterns, fantastic ideas, and your contribution to the beading world…
Just use fewer increase lines! Our Bellflowers have only four increase lines, but the same progression patterns at each point and valley. Try 3, 4 and 5!
Thanks, I’ll try that..
One thing I will be interested to hear about is people’s opinion of the extra notation used to denote stitches that are part of the Hex progression. It’s been a subject of discussion but it would be good to hear from a wider audience. Is it helpful, or distracting?
Even the posting is a thing of beauty!❤️
