CONTEMPORARY GEOMETRIC BEADWORK

an open source architectural beadwork project from Kate McKinnon and a worldwide team of innovators

Superstars

We’re almost ready to release our first free patterns (from our Superstars chapter) and a whole lot of new CGB news – new fellowships, our first book release, our very own studio space, a gorgeous Joyce Scott piece we are going to raffle off in support of our education fund, and a very special (pandemic-safe) workshop/retreat series.

Here’s a peek of the chapter opener, and we’ll see you in a few days!

Have you ever experimented with alternating increase and decrease sequences?

I love the fact that this has been an internationally collaborative and open project and cannot wait to be able to buy the books….(for me preferable than a screen). The world would be a much better place with some more competitive collaboration as opposed to the me myself and I world we live in. Kate, your positivity and acceptance shines with this project, the exploration of beads geometric and open discussion of the same also gives me hope for a better world. The collaboration of many beaders, is a testament to their trust and respect for you Kate. What a treat for someone to be able to explore further via a fellowship. Thankyou Thankyou Thankyou Kate for your drive and enthusiasm. Looking forward to the publication ….. alex

    Hi Kate,
So excited to hear from you, and see more of what’s coming soon. Thank you for all your hard work and dedication to contemporary beadwork, but more than that – the vision, the leadership, the listening (and taking photos) and logging all the new creations. From the bottom of my heart, thank you!!!!
Hope you can get some family/fun/rest time during the holidays, Naomi

Wow I cannot wait to see my long awaited book – it’s been a long time coming but I know it’s going to be worth the weight.
Thank you Kate for persevering to get this book out for us 🙏

Worth the “weight” is right! Laughing! We are striving to keep each one under a pound for shipping reasons.

I hope those of us that did not purchase a book in advance will be able to in the future. I enjoying following this blog and CGB news and updates. I enjoy making warp square projects and 3D elements. Best to you Kate and the whole CGB Family!

Definitely! I didn’t want to take any more pre-orders until we were sure about a date; the last wave was in support of our fellowship for Kathryn Shriver. We are going to print a LOT of books, they will be in shops all over the world.

Alternating increase and decrease. I never thought of trying that but now that I’ve heard the idea I wonder why I never did think of it. Often the best ideas that never occurred to me seem so obvious after I’ve heard them. I’m going to have great fun making a bunch of the simple goat stars for Xmas!

Agreed, and once we saw Susannah’s spiral it really changed some of what we thought we knew, and the concepts crept into every chapter. As I told her, she is singlehandedly responsible for five years of delay in publishing as three times she has shown me something that she made in play that upended my apple cart completely. First was the geometric triangle-based Kaleidocycle in 2015.

At this moment I’m not sure if I have use alternating increasing and decreasing sequences. I am currently using odd count peyote on a bracelet and trying to knit socks.

Ha!!! I am pretty certain that I never did, except when making Rick-Rack but that doesn’t really count as it was all one idea. This one mixes Hexagon and Triangle (aka Herringbone) for spectacular results. The Reverse Starflowers switch the progressions for a cupped form.

When will the actual books be mailed?

    • katemckinnon
      December 6, 2022

As soon as they are finished! It won’t be long, but it is a huge amount of work (4 books worth) that we are finalizing and we cannot give a date until the press files are complete. We thank you for your patience as we work non-stop toward this goal. Anyone who feels impatient should let us know for a full refund of any pre-order, as has always been our policy. Best, Kate
